This introductory course is suited to those with no prior experience of Buddhism as well as those who have had some previous instruction
Starting with the questions ‘what is Buddhism?’ and ‘how should we approach it?‘, over the five weeks we will turn our attention to the biography of the historical Buddha and his teaching’s subsequent development, before looking in more detail at some of the
Buddhist basics -The Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path
By concentrating on the threefold way of Ethics, Meditation and Wisdom, we will explore ways of bringing ‘Buddhism’ into our everyday lives in a meaningful way. Particular emphasis will be given to the five ethical precepts common to all schools of Buddhism and their application to life in the modern world
The sessions will be informal with lots of opportunity for questions and discussion over tea and cookies
